Ward 7 is one of London's fastest-growing communities. As new neighborhoods emerge and the population continues to expand, residents must play a greater role in shaping the decisions that affect their daily lives.
I believe City Hall works best when it listens. As your councilor, I will prioritize community engagement, regular public meetings, transparent communication, and meaningful consultation so Ward 7 residents help lead the conversation about our future. Growth should not happen to our community, it should happen with our community.
Growth must be matched with infrastructure and services. I will push for planning that keeps roads, transit, parks, schools, libraries, and services aligned with growth so neighborhoods are complete.
I will support safer streets, better transit, and improved walking and cycling connections to help residents move easily and reduce congestion.
I will advocate for more investment in parks, libraries, recreation, and community spaces that support families, youth, seniors, and newcomers.
I support more diverse and well-planned housing that increases supply while maintaining community input and neighborhood quality.

Downtown businesses are an important part of our local economy. Support up to two hours of free city-owned parking for customers who shop locally and show proof of purchase.
Too many residential properties and commercial buildings remain vacant while London faces housing shortages. Encourage vacant properties to be rented, sold, redeveloped, or converted into housing and business opportunities.
Housing affordability is one of London's biggest challenges. Increase housing supply, support attainable housing, and ensure responsible growth.
Homelessness affects individuals, families, and neighborhoods across the city. Focus on housing, mental health supports, addiction services, and pathways to stability.
A vibrant downtown benefits the entire city. Attract more businesses, restaurants, events, entertainment, and community activities.
Traffic congestion continues to frustrate residents. Improve traffic flow, public transit, road planning, and active transportation options.
Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. Reduce barriers, encourage investment, and support local entrepreneurs.
Strong communities require strong public services. Invest in parks, libraries, recreation facilities, and community spaces.
Residents deserve a greater voice in local government. Promote transparency, accountability, and meaningful public engagement.
Growth must benefit current and future residents. Match development with infrastructure, services, and community needs.
I am Djuma Moise Sharifu, a Canadian author, community advocate, and political candidate running for City Councilor in Ward 7.
I hold an Associate Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from Humber College, have completed additional coursework in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering program at the University of Ottawa, and earned an Academic and Career Entrance Diploma from Fanshawe College. I also hold a Certificate as a Mechanic.
Beyond academics, I have worked directly in the community supporting homeless individuals and newcomers, helping connect people to employment services, shelters, and settlement supports. That experience has shaped how I see City Hall: not as a distant institution, but as something that must respond to real human needs with practical solutions.
I am also a writer with published work in socio-political commentary, focused on how society, governance, and community decisions shape everyday life.
I am running for Ward 7 because I believe residents deserve a stronger voice in how their community grows—one that reflects their needs, listens to their concerns, and ensures development works for the people who live here.
